Amnesty International
Amnesty from Melanie Powell |
Why should you support Amnesty International?
Amnesty International doesn’t just reveal the outrage of human rights abuse but inspires hope for a better world through public action and international solidarity. The charity helps to stop human rights abuses by mobilising members and supporters to put pressure on governments, armed groups, companies and intergovernmental bodies |

Literature in Context
A course which would appeal to A level students who are keen to study either History or English at University or those who have not continued to study these subjects but would like the opportunity to explore new works and look specifically at what Literature can tell us about History.
Living on a Shoe String
This enrichment is designed to prepare sixth form students for living alone. Students will be taught how to manage a budget, cut their living costs and learn how to prepare a range of healthy, inexpensive meals.
Med Soc
Photography
An opportunity for A level Photography students to develop their photography darkroom skills or for those new to Photography to explore the media and early photographic developments.
Politics Society
6th form politics society enrichment is designed to cover areas of Politics not covered on the Politics A-Level. It is designed to be deliberately challenging and to get students to think about history, current affairs and political theories that they have not yet been exposed to.
This enrichment is accessible for both Politics and non-politics students – with students from subjects as diverse as Physics, Philosophy and Drama taking the enrichment last year. Last year we covered topical debates such as the NSA scandal, the workings of the European Union, International Relations theory, North Korean security, Politics at University and the Ukraine Crisis amongst others. Classes are structured around a range of activity types from formal debates to mini-lectures, reading and open floor discussions. In particular this enrichment provides a good taster for University level study and ways of thinking and would complement those undertaking the EPQ in History or Social Science well (as research methodology is covered). |
Psychology
Sixth Form students who are either studying Psychology or have interest in this subject can come along to the society to discuss and debate contemporary issues in psychology. We also be arranging for guest speakers from the field of psychology to come and address the students.
Practical Criticism
This enrichment is targeted at students applying for English at uni, and particularly those applying to Cambridge/Oxford to prepare them for the unseen task at interview.
STEP Mathematics
Aimed at year 12 or 13 pupils who are considering taking STEP in year 13. STEP is an advanced level mathematics examination, administered by the University of Cambridge for high ability A level maths pupils who are considering taking up mathematics or related subjects at university. It is included in some university offers. The enrichment will focus on the technique needed to solve STEP questions.
